Sure, you know about Lightclaw and Darkwing's battle and how they became Gods, but what about Brightmeadow, Lightclaw's sister? She too, has a part in all this but her story is a bit more complicated...
Brightmeadow was strong through the landing blows that were dealt in her clan and family, but life did have to go on, and on it did. As moon's passed Brightmeadow found love. The only problem? It was outside her clan.
She fell for a young tom from MistClan called Graysplash. Together the young cats would meet and speak of their hopes and dreams for the clans. Both of the cats had suffered from the great battle. Graysplash's father was part of the conspiracy against their clans in the battle. However, the past meant nothing to Brightmeadow. They became mates, and when Brightmeadow was due with kits she feared on what GaleClan would say about them.
When her mother found out she was ashamed, but she wasn't going to condemn her daughter for love. However, a tom in GaleClan known as Nettleheart wouldn't hear of it. Nettleheart had sought Brightmeadow for moons and when he spotted Brightmeadow with Graysplash he plotted to kill him.
Nettleheart crossed into MistClan territory waiting for the tom where they battled. Graysplash fell. When news reached Brightmeadow she was devastated. MistClan was angered about what had happened, but vowed to only take revenge on the cat responsible. Nettleheart was executed by MistClan's deputy and the peace was restored. Mostly. Many cats agreed having relationship's outside of the clan was foolish.
While Brightmeadow grieved she also created a plan. When she passed, she would speak with her brother in StarClan, and create a system of sorts.
She called it "Lovebites". While its not a bite, its a mark. Whenever a cat finds their soul mate their left paw is adorned with matching marks. These marks aren't permanent, but only appear when the chosen cats experience feelings of true love.
Brightmeadow believed it didn't matter where you came from or even what gender your mate was. Love was love, simple as that. With Lovebite's cats have the opportunity to find out who they're truly meant for. Sometimes it doesn't always make the chosen cats happy, but it is up to them to make it work or break it.
